i woke up this morning with this paralyzing fear
when i leave you today and heads towards the skyline
by the time i get back i'll have died a thousand times

what i really wanna know is if everyone around feels the same
no matter where you go i supposed it's just that way

this quite little house and these busy city streets
are all ever wanted when i turned 18
so i majored in some bullshit and i got a degree
grabbed my wild west river girl and we hit the twin cities

those kids in lowertown man they just remind me of me
when i was young when i was wide eyed excited man i was free

now don't get me wrong it's not like i'm unhappy
i just get so far away from what my mom taught me
she said just live and just love and give all you got
you'll have everything you need there'll be nothing left to want

that's a lie she never said those things but that don't mean it ain't true
by the time i left i understood it so she never really had to
